The Lieberman/Lautenberg Variation

Now that Joe has committed (once again) to caucus with the Democrats to organize the Senate, I think its time to put forward my own little solution to our "Joe Problem".  I freely admit that this came to me while reading a diary at Booman Tribune so thanks or curses to those folks depending on the reaction this gets.
If Joe keeps his seniority then he would be in line to chair Homeland Security which also includes Governmental Affairs.  Not so important if Joe controls Homeland Security but we want somebody to really investigate in the Governmental Affairs sector.  So my solution is to give Lautenberg his seniority back also and split the committee when the new Senate is organized and let Joe chair Homeland Security and Frank chair the new Governmental Affairs committe.  Thoughts anyone?

Excellent - Great minds and all that..

I had the same idea earlier and have a half written plea to Reid and my two Senators to vote to split the committees. Perhaps we could make it a BLOG ACTION project. At least Reid appreciates the power and energy of the Netroots.

We just have to be careful to do it in a way that assuages Joe's fragile narcisstic ego so he thnks he is gaining power. For instance the Governing affairs portion could have some mundane (ie. not news worthy) responsibilities, such as the Ethics Commmittee responsibilities, keeping track of differences in bills as they emerge from reconciliation committee, or others. What is not important - worded so that Joe get bored just reading the responsibilities of Governing Affairs portion and arrives at the conclusion it won't play well with his buddies on "Faux News".

Give him some special recognition.

A subpoena as part of an investigation of his petty cash should do the trick.
